However, its dynamic culture outweighs this aspect, and the land of football and samba has become ever more popular with investors and property buyers, who are flocking to its newly built resorts, mainly in the northeast, which is famous for its beaches, and where residents can enjoy the joie de vivre that Brazil is famous for.

Country Guide to Brazil

Capital: Brasília
Currency: Brazilian Real
Language: Portuguese

Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world and it is bordered by 10 countries. It has a population of some 208 million and they are the descendents of immigrants from some 50 nations, plus there are indigenous peoples still living in the country’s famous rainforest. It has a mostly tropical climate with the south being more temperate, and the diversity of its landscapes that range from the sophistication of Copacabana beach to unexplored depths of Amazonian jungle are part of its enduring appeal to foreigners.

As many know, Brazil is a country of both exceptional wealth and extreme poverty. However, its dynamic culture outweighs this aspect, and the land of football and samba has become ever more popular with investors and property buyers, who are flocking to its newly built resorts where residents can enjoy the joie de vivre that Brazil is famous for.

Brazilian economy

The Brazilian economy has been on several rollercoaster rides and its economy has been in a severe crisis since 2015. Despite a number of measures being taken, recovery is slow, but this is good news for investors. The new currency has reduced the threat of inflation and the Brazilian government is putting an enormous effort into encouraging foreign buyers to invest into Brazil’s real estate market.

Brazilian culture

This is primarily a Roman Catholic culture in terms of religious affiliations, hence the statue of Christ the Redeemer on Mt. Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro. Family life is at the heart of Brazilian society and the extended family, all living together, is still commonplace. There is a great deal of cultural diversity due to the various immigrant populations that arrived over the past three hundred years including Japanese, Chinese and African slaves. These influences extend to Brazilian cuisine, which varies throughout the regions and encompasses influences from Africa, Asia, Middle East, Italian, Spanish, Amerindian, China and Japan.

Location and price

Brazil has a straightforward and restriction free purchasing process for foreign investors. Everybody can buy real estate in Brazil, regardless of whether the purchaser is a resident of Brazil or not. Investors are given very attractive tax options, like a zero percent purchase tax or tax reductions for non-residents. In addition all properties are sold on freehold basis, meaning that the buyer gets a 100% land ownership.

At the moment, Brazil has one of the fastest growing property markets in the world, because it offers a wide variety of property to suit every taste and budget.

With a coastline of over 7,000 km, Brazil provides plenty of beachside properties at a reasonable price, depending on the area. Currently the area which is considered most promising for investment in Brazil is the north east of the country, which takes in the states of Bahia, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará, where Fortaleza is the place where most overseas residents want to buy. Property prices in this part of the country are already rising, but are still low enough for any investment to pay off.
