Area guide to Granada

Granada is a province with both inland and coastal areas. Both are popular with foreign buyers, and each one has something particular to offer. Its capital is world famous and it has an enviable landscape that takes in the Sierra Nevada Natural Park with its mountains and ski resort, plus a beautiful coastline with lovely resorts and beaches.

Inland, the lush greenery of the Alpujarras has attracted many overseas residents to towns like Lanjarón and Orgiva, both of which are known for attracting a cosmopolitan and artistic community.

The Costa Tropical is Granada province’s 60km of coastline and it is relatively unspoilt. Its picturesque landscape includes fishing villages and traditional white villages.

Granada City

The city of Granada has a rich cultural heritage centred round its most famous landmark – the Alhambra Palace — which is one of the most exceptional examples of Islamic architecture in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But it is also a vibrant university city and has a uniquely wonderful, bohemian and upbeat atmosphere. It is also home to some of the greatest flamenco performers and the best tapas bars.

There are three 18-hole courses in the province, including Los Moriscos in Motril, Santa Clara, which is south of Granada city and Granada golf, which is also close to the city.

The province doesn’t have a huge number of international schools, but there is the Almuñecar International School. Schools in neighbouring provinces may be within a suitable travelling distance.

Favourite residential areas

On the Costa tropical some of the most popular resorts are Almunecar, La Herradura, Salobrena, Motril and Castell del Ferro. Inland, Orgiva and Bubión are among the most popular, although there are plenty of other places inland, including Granada city.
