Sporting in Andalucia
Sporting in Andalucia – Andalucia, the region that makes up most of southern Spain, is blessed with 320 days of sunshine annually. This makes it an ideal location for enjoying the outdoor life and sports in particular. And, Andalucia has a lot of different sports to choose from, illustrating the wealth of great activities that are available here for anyone buying a property on the Costa del Sol, whether for year round living or holidays.
Costa del Golf
When it comes to sporting in Andalucia, there can be few people who don’t know that Spain and golf go together like jelly and ice cream. The countryside and the climate make for some of the most beautiful golf courses in Europe and with upwards of 70 courses between Málaga and Sotogrande, golfers of all levels have an exceptional choice. Although, Portugal is another strong contender for the golfing capital of Europe, Andalucia is the current winner, thanks to championship courses like Valderrama and Finca Cortesin, and golfers from northern Europe flock here by the thousands between October and June, although it is of course possible to play year round.

Sun and snow
After Switzerland, Spain is the most mountainous country in Europe and although it may mostly be associated with sunny, summer holidays, it has several excellent ski resorts across the country. The Pyrenees in the north are obviously close to the French Alps and the Sierras outside Madrid are also considered good for a ski trip. However, Andalucia, right in the south, is usually the first European ski resort to open for the season and the last to close. This might seem remarkable in a region known for its sun, but the Sierra Nevada range, outside Granada, has the highest peak in Spain, Mulhacén, which is 11,410 feet above sea level. And when the ski season is over and the sun melts the snow, the Sierra Nevada becomes a hive of activity for walkers, hikers, rock-climbers, and mountain-bikers.
Ski properties in Spain
Sporting in Andalucia of course includes skiing. The Sierra Nevada is about a two-hour drive from Marbella in the centre of the Costa del Sol, but if you select a property in the Granada region or on the Costa Tropical or Blanca, you will be even closer. There are also occasionally ski chalets for sale in the Sierra Nevada.
